Inaugural 5K Run & Walk
Benefiting Gridiron Heroes
Saturday Morning 5K Benefits Gridiron Heroes
August 27, 2011
Saturday Morning can be a time where some may sleep in to recover from a long work week, but that was not the case for over 150 runners who participated in a walk and run 5K put on by Coach Fran Charities. This event was held at Bobcat Stadium where Texas State University Head Coach Dennis Franchione presented medals to the top 3 overall finishers in each race, as well as the top 3 finishers in each age category.
Amy Marlow, Texas State University Student, was one of the participants and was glad to be able to support Coach Fran Charities and Gridiron Heroes, which was started by the family of Chris Canales, former San Marcos Academy student, who had his jersey retired last year during a special ceremony.
“It was great to be able to support Chris Canales and Gridiron Heroes,” said Marlow. “I am looking forward to next years’ race and raising more support and awareness from San Marcos Academy students and alumni.”
Coach Fran Charities is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides support for children with special needs, as well as other charitable causes. The primary emphasis of the foundation centers on after-school programs in reading and literacy, life skills and the arts. Texas State University Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione (Founder & Chairman), his wife Kim (Founder & Vice Chairman) and New York Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson serve on the Board of Directors.
